New Hampshire Film Festival
Taking place each October during the weekend after Columbus Day, the New Hampshire Film Festival has called Portsmouth home since being founded in 2001. The mission of the festival is to "support the art of filmmaking and to present the best in recent independent cinema from the region, nation and world." All screening locations are less than a ½ mile from our hotel.
What began as a grassroots organization to support student, local and regional filmmakers has blossomed into a recognized film festival that showcases the smartest and some of the most ingenious filmmakers on the international film festival circuit. The New Hampshire Film Festival is a four-day event that couples professional filmmakers and screenwriters with industry experts, educators, aspiring directors and film lovers for workshops, screenings, networking events and intriguing panel discussions.
In 2010 the festival attracted nearly 10,000 attendees and screened over 80 domestic and international films. In fact, the 2010 New Hampshire Film Festival received over 700 films and 200 screenplays for consideration. The festival screens the best films across four state-of-the-art venues ranging in size from 65 to 900-seat theaters.
