Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Competition
As the largest Master Sand Sculpture competition in the Northeast, the Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture competition was born in 2000 with the release of the unique New Hampshire quarter. Local artist, Mr. Gregory Grady was initially championed by the U.S. Mint to create a larger than life quarter out of ten tons of sand. Fortunately for the neighboring communities, this even has grown year over year and continues to delight residents and visitors alike.
Hampton Beach, conveniently located approximately twenty minutes from our Portsmouth hotel, is a delightful seaside community with stretches of pristine white sand. With each passing year, the Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture competition has grown increasingly larger. In 2011, the invitation only event featured fifteen (15) world class masters all vying for the $15,000 prize money. For weeks following the event, the sand sculptures are preserved with "windscreen" a solution of water and glue, allowing the creations to be kept on the beach serving as a free museum for all to enjoy.
The 2012 event is scheduled to begin on June 19, with the castles being illuminated through July 7, 2013.
